SIXTEEN premier surf clubs from Noosa to Lennox Heads are gearing up this weekend to take on 10 of Straddie's best surfers for the 29th annual Straddie Assault.
The Straddie Assault will see some of the best surf action at Point Lookout which is Australia's longest running team invitation only surfing competition.
North Stradbroke Island captain Nathan Spect said he believes other clubs should be worried after recently picking his team.
"I think we've got a pretty good shot at winning it. It definitely would be nice to win the comp on home turf," he said.
Nathan said current Point Lookout surf club champion Curtis Ewing was on the team and would be surfing in the opens event.
"His little brother Ethan (14), who just won the under 16 Junior Queensland surfing comp is also on the team surfing in the juniors," he said.
"But we've also we've got Lincoln Taylor and Timmy Macdonald surfing for us. Both are currently competing on the World Qualifying Series."
Nathan said Lincoln was ranked 72nd in the world and Tim was 150th.
"But in the seniors event we've also got Luke Surawski surfing. In the women's event Stacey Holt will be surfing, and in the juniors we've got Brooke Gregory, Nat Rose-Vanluan and Trey Vaughn Clough," he said.
"With a team like that it's going to be a good comp."
The Straddie Assault will run throughout this Saturday, October 20 from 7.30am to 4.30pm, and Sunday, October 21 from 7.30am to 2pm. For more information on the event, transport options or places to stay phone the Redlands visitor information centre on 1300 667 386.
