FIRES have damaged about 60 metres of boardwalk in a Victoria Point conservation area.
The first vegetation fire occurred in an inaccessible location in the Point Halloran Conservation Area on Tuesday, September 27.
About 15 hectares of land burnt during the fires, which were finally alleviated by rain nearly a week later.
The cause of the fire was unknown, but Queensland Police said the fires had not been reported to police.
A spokesperson for Redland City Council said the fire was not an authorised or Council-controlled hazard reduction burn.
“Cost of damage to the boardwalk is yet to be determined,” the spokesperson said.
Residents reported heavy smoke in Victoria Point and Redland Bay on the weekend.
A spokesperson for Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) said they were called to assist on Wednesday, September 28 and Saturday, October 1.
He said the fire was burning within containment lines and was being monitored at the time by council officers.
