Members of the Russell Island community joined MAX Employment staff to officially open the new MAX Employment Russell Island site on November 8.
The new site will deliver employment and job seeker support services to the Russell Island community three days a week.
Russell Island Business Manager Shaylea O’Neil said staff were thrilled to be joining a new site that will be helping more job seekers find work than ever before.
“The opening at Russell Island will further support local businesses and job seekers in the area with sustainable employment opportunities,” she said.
Ms O’Neil said it was also an exciting opportunity for MAX to extend its reach to areas in the Moreton Bay region. The site will be initially open from 9am to 4pm Monday to Wednesday.
“The site formerly operated as an outreach service, and by having a rotating roster of staff there three days a week, MAX aims to make serious connections with employers and job seekers in the region,” she said.
“Job seekers are travelling to the mainland from Russell Island and other neighbouring islands to look for work so we aim to help them here locally.”
Federal Member for Bowman, Andrew Laming said the new site would be a great benefit to the community.
“MAX is clearly committed to better job outcomes on the southern Moreton Bay islands,” Mr Laming said.
“This service means locals can obtain employment services and ultimately a job without needing to leave the islands.”
The MAX Employment Russell Island team is aiming to find jobs for as many local job seekers as possible in the lead up to Christmas as part of the national MAX Employment Christmas jobs drive. For every job found on Russell Island, $5 will be donated to local charity Rosies – Friends on the Street.
“We really have a wonderful team working at MAX which is connected to communities and our local area is working closely with Rosies to bring more smiles to people before Christmas,” Ms O’Neil said.
“There is no greater gift at Christmas than to see someone who has struggled to gain employment find a job. We have job seekers that utilise Rosies’ services, so it makes perfect sense to support them any way we can,” she said.
