HELPING to foster a love of continued learning in older adults, University of the Third Age (U3A) Redlands is preparing to stage its annual mini expo and enrolment day in January.
U3A began in France in the 1970s as a way of helping older people access learning opportunities long after school had ended, and the Redland branch of the organisation offers a vast range of cost-effective courses, including languages, arts, jewellery-making, genealogy, law subjects and more, all with no exams to take.
The not-for-profit organisation’s enrolment day will be held at Faith Lutheran College Redlands senior campus in Beveridge Road, Thornlands from 9am to noon on Friday, January 13.
Existing members can renew their membership, new members are welcome to join, and everyone can meet and speak with tutors and activity coordinators about the courses and activities they run.
EFTPOS facilities will be available on the day.
U3A Redlands president Julie Porteous said the organisation was ideal for people who had retired.
“We retire from a working life, not from life,” she said.
“It’s important to keep doing things that keep the brain active.
“Perhaps there has not been an opportunity to learn an activity – like bocce or painting – but in retirement there is time.”
