CARMEL College student Georgia Phillips is on a mission to make the world a more beautiful place.
The 15-year-old girl, who will sashay the stage at next month’s Miss Teen Galaxy Australia competition, is doing all she can to help make the dreams of sick children come true.
She has chosen to raise money for Make-A-Wish Australia as part of her beauty pageant commitments.
While charitable efforts are encouraged for entrance into the competition, the Miss Teen Galaxy Australia finalist has taken the responsibility on with gusto.
Cosmetics, power tools, personal training sessions, car tinting and more have all been procured by the Thornlands teen from friends, family and businesses as prizes for her fundraising raffles.
All she has to do now is sell raffle tickets to those wanting to enter the draw and find people able to donate cash to the cause.
But she said getting the help needed to do that had been harder than imaged.
While the Year 10 student said she had approached up to 500 businesses for fundraising help since she was named as a national finalist two weeks ago, her luck has been limited.
“(It) has been disheartening,” Georgia said. “But I refuse to give up as Make-A-Wish Australia is an amazing organisation and I want to do all that I can to help.”
The teen, who hopes she will be supported in her charitable efforts, said she wanted to raise as much money as possible before the pageant is held next month at the Gold Coast.
The competition is split into different segments including fashion, evening, swimwear and an interview.
While she is set to compete against up to 20 other contestants from across the country, her hopes for winning are high.
Georgia said special mentions of those businesses and organisations which supported her Make-A-Wish Australia fundraiser would be made at every opportunity and also to the media if she is placed first to compete in Florida later this year at the international pageant.
