Claim of attempted abduction at Victoria Point Shopping Centre unfounded, say police

POLICE are investigating a man behaving suspiciously at Victoria Point Shopping Centre, but say there are no allegations of abduction or assault.

A police spokesman said they were investigating an incident involving a man and a woman in the shopping centre car park about 2.50pm on Tuesday.

“We are investigating wilful damage and a man behaving suspiciously,” he said.

Contrary to reports on social media, the spokesman said there were no allegations of abduction or assault.

Police have asked for information from anyone who had witnessed the incident or had seen a green Holden Barina that had a flat tyre or a silver four-wheel-drive vehicle in the car park near the Kmart entrance.

Witnesses and anyone with dash cam footage should contact Cleveland police station on 3824 9333 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
