REDLAND Bay tennis star Lara Walker has qualified for a world junior tennis event.
Walker was on the three-member under 14 girls team that came first at a qualifying event in Bangkok.
The World Junior Finals will be held in Czech Republic in August.
Walker is ranked fourth in Australia in the under 14 age group.
The team lost to China (1-2) in the round robin stages, but beat Korea (2-0) and Thailand (2-1) in the final playoffs, as well as Uzbekistan (3-0) and Sri Lanka (3-0) in the round robin stages.
The top four teams qualified for the World Junior Tennis Finals.
Former Fed Cup player and team coach Bryanne Crabb said she was delighted with the girls’ performance.
“The girls handled the conditions extremely well and worked together well as a team,” she said.
“We came in with a positive mind frame, but it’s even more special to come out finishing on top.
“All credit to these girls. They worked fantastically as a team and displayed extreme work ethic in the tough conditions. Fingers crossed we can back it up in August,” Crabb said.
The Australians will be joined by fellow Asia/Oceania teams Korea, China and Thailand at the finals.
A total of 16 teams will compete at the event in Czech Republic from August 7 to 12.
