ALEXANDRA Hills councillor Murray Elliott is celebrating his 20th year as a Redland City Councillor.
He was first elected on March 25, 1997 after working running a hardware store in the suburb.
Cr Elliott is known for sharing his long experience with tyro councillors.
At council meetings he often throws a light on development issues born only from long corporate knowledge.
Mayor Karen Williams, who sometimes locks horns with Cr Elliott, said he had earned the title grandfather of the council.
“He’s been a vocal voice for Alexandra Hills for a long time now,’’ she said.
Cr Williams said Cr Elliott was justifiably proud of achievements at Alexandra Hills, including gold plating playgrounds and parklands for the leafy suburb.
She said he had maintained an interest in environment issues and sustainability and was a regular every other week at the Alexandra Hills Shopping Centre where constituents were able to raise issues with him.
“Where’s my pension?’’ quipped Cr Elliott.
“You’re in the wrong level of government for that,’’ fired back Cr Williams.
