THORNESIDE man Kevin Rogers is 54, a world power lifting champion who can lift 92.5kg.
Soon he hopes to create history by holding three national records in three different weight classes and two weight classes at a world level, all at the same time.
He has just competed in the Council of Australian Powerlifting Organisations’ state championships in bench press.
He went into the championships as the current national champion and record holder in the 67.5kg class, weighing in at 66.3kg in deadlift and bench press.
Mr Rogers is the world record holder in the 56kg and 60kg classes with the Global Powerlifting Committee, Global Powerlifting Alliance and the World Powerlifting Congress.
He did a personal best competition lift of 92.5kg, up 2kg from his previous PB set in 2013.
His next goal is to drop back to the 56kg division for the CAPO national championships being held August 11 to 13 and set open and masters national and world records.
Mr Rogers said that if he was successful with this goal, he would hold three national records in three different weight classes and two weight classes at a world level, all at the same time.
“It’s not unusual for a lifter to go up in weight classes from 56 to 60 to 67.5kg but what is unusual is to go backwards from 67.5 back down to the 56kg class and lift more,’’ he said.
“Sporting history could, be made.’’
Mr Rogers has been representing the Redlands in power lifting for more than 22 years.
He is the owner and head coach of the Ormiston Private Health Club.
