FILMING of the superhero blockbuster movie Aquaman is taking place off North Stradbroke Island, but there is no opportunity for spectators to spot the main cast.
Crews moved onto the island, setting up their trucks at the Amity Point camping ground on Tuesday morning.
The Redland City Bulletin understands that the filming will take place on the island for a few days and involves only supporting cast members.
With many scenes from the movie on and under the water, Moreton Bay off Amity Point is a fitting location for filming.
The Warner Bros Pictures film stars Amber Heard, Jason Momoa and Willem Dafoe and is directed by James Wan, who directed Furious 7.
Mayor Karen Williams said the council had been working closely with Warner Bros Feature Productions around opportunities for the filming of Aquaman to occur in the Redlands.
“The Redlands prides itself on being a film-friendly city, attracting a diverse range of films including what promises to be a Hollywood blockbuster,” she said.
“I encourage the community to extend a warm welcome to the cast and crew of Aquaman.”
Principal photography for the movie began on the Gold Coast this month.
Extensive filming is planned at Village Roadshow Studios, and other filming will take place in Newfoundland, Sicily and Tunisia.
The Palaszczuk Government secured the film shooting in Queensland in December with the premier saying it was a huge win for the local industry and testament to the international reputation of Queenslanders.
The film, based on characters from DC Comics, is scheduled for release next year.
