Capalaba Greyhound Race Club will get $15,000 from the state government to help repair flood damage from Cyclone Debbie.
The course and starter boxes when the ex-cyclone went through the Redlands in March.
Racing Minister Grace Grace said flooding associated with the remnants of Cyclone Debbie inflicted significant damage to the club’s buildings and racing infrastructure.
“The remnants of Cyclone Debbie left their mark on Capalaba Greyhound Race Club,” Ms Grace said.
“Our $15,000 cash injection will cover the club’s out of pocket expenses associated with repairing this damaged infrastructure.”
Capalaba MP Don Brown said sections of the sand track were washed away, resulting in disruption to training.
“I’m pleased the Palaszczuk government has been able to deliver these much-needed funds to assist the club on its road to recovery,’’ he said.
Ms Grace said the cash grant was part of a $778,000 overall support package for nine Queensland race clubs left with hefty repair bills as a result of Cyclone Debbie.
“The Palaszczuk government won’t leave these clubs to foot the bill – that’s why we’ve established a capital grants program to assist in the recovery efforts,’’ she said.
“In addition to this, Racing Queensland has established a special fund to assist trainers who have encountered additional welfare, care and transportation costs.
“To date Racing Queensland has received pledges totalling $140,000, with the special fighting fund providing payments to eligible trainers of $350 or $700, depending on the level of activity of each trainer.”
