STUDENTS at Cleveland State School received an A plus prize for their efforts to raise dollars for sports and music equipment.
While the school’s annual fundraiser has usually delivered $10,000 or less, physical education teacher Caitlin Harris said students “smashed” this year’s set goal by more than double – about $24,000 was raised by students throughout the month of May.
She said staff were left with no option but to come good on the promise of colour fun run, which had been used as an incentive.
Water misters, a super bubble machine, obstacle course and DJ’d music helped children, parents and staff celebrate the achievement on Thursday, May 25.
But the key ingredient, about 75kg of coloured dust, proved most popular.
Ms Harris said students were doused in the colours every time they crossed the course’s finish line.
“The students, teachers and parents were all covered in colour and smiles,” Ms Harris said.
She said the money would most likely be used to update the school’s playground and sports equipment and help buy items needed for next year’s school musical.
