COUNCIL is embarking on an ambitious campaign to brand Redland city.
The brand will tell people what makes Redlands stand out from the rest and is aimed at promoting the city and boosting tourism, investment and jobs.
Mayor Karen Williams said branding was intended to bolster the economy and build on city pride.
“A strong city brand that captures what is unique about our city will help to promote the Redlands as a destination to live, play and do business,” she said.
“It will do more than just drive tourism. It will help stimulate business, create local jobs, boost investment and enhance community spirit.”
Council and the Redland City Bulletin want residents to play a role by guiding city leaders and providing advice on the city’s strongest selling points via a story-telling competition about the essence of the Redlands.
The Bulletin will publish a selection of stories and pictures of authors or Redland sites.
“Redlanders – the people who live, work, shop and raise families in our special part of the world – are the greatest ambassadors for the city and we want to hear your stories,” Cr Williams said.
“Not only will you go in the draw to win some great prizes but you will be helping create a brand for the city that will boost its economic future and build on our community pride.”
To enter the competition, all residents need to do is share a story about living or growing up in the Redlands, a favourite memory, special place or what the city means to you.
Residents can say what the Redlands means to them and why they love the place so much.
These stories will be used as ammunition to mould the new city brand which will be unveiled later this year.
Storytelling workshops have been organised at Cleveland Library for those who want guidance on how to begin.
Council will also hold online surveys, community brain-storming and workshops. For more information visit redland.qld.gov.au.
Stories can be submitted in writing, song, video, artwork or any creative style that best relates your feelings and entered at redland.qld.gov.au or dropped off at customer service centres.
They also can be sent to the Redland City Bulletin at newsredlands@fairfaxmedia.com.au and delivered or mailed to our offices at 62 Delancey Street, Ormiston. Stories need to be limited to about 450 words for publication.
The competition closes August 31 and prizes include five Apple IPad 9.7inch retina 32GB Wi-Fi (each valued at $469) and five Go Pro Hero4 Session (each valued at $239)
