REDLANDS Floral Art Club has celebrated ten years of flowers, friendship and fun.
The petal-themed party all happened at Ormiston’s Scout Den on Friday, August 11.
President Val Decker said she was delighted by the number of people who attended to celebrate, with some travelling from outside the Redlands to enjoy a slice of birthday cake.
Special guests included founding members Octavia Forbes, of Ormiston, and Kawana’s Pauline Tetther.
Ms Forbes said the group was formed a decade ago after she and Pauline noticed no other groups like it existed in the area.
While meetings and workshops first took place at Pauline’s home, the Scout Den was rented out as interest in the group grew.
About 32 people now meet every month to craft themed floral arrangements.
Mrs Decker said the club offered a creative outlet in the company of friends.
“We have a great team and committee and we have so much fun,” she said.
“Each month members show their skill when they put in a design on the show bench in three sections – advanced, intermediate and novice.
“Advice is given by visiting demonstrators and experienced members of the club in classical and modern ways to make flower arranging the art form it is today.”
Mrs Decker said giving flowers to someone was a great gesture.
”Flowers can say everything, without saying anything out loud,” she said.
The club has also placed flower bouquets throughout the Redlands as a random act of kindness to those lucky enough to find them.
The drop-offs were all for International Lonely Bouquet Day, which is aimed at bringing happiness to strangers.
Ms Decker said the group met every second Friday of the month between 9.30am and 12.30pm.
