THE Oaklands Street Community Garden Is abuzz with more than just bees, birds and butterflies after more than a decade’s worth of love and tending.
Director Emma Baker said Oaklands gardeners were getting ready again for their annual open garden day.
“The community garden has expanded over the years from a house block of vegetable allotments to nearly 4 acres (1.6 hectares) of raised gardens, orchard, grape arbor and sensory gardens,” she said.
“The new junior playground will be finished just in time for the young and the young at heart to have an adventure among the trees and with lots of places to sit, guests and visitors will be happy to stay longer.”
Ms Baker said the open day would have a variety of plants for sale.
There also would talks about bees and gardening as well as workshops and garden tours.
“The food at the Oaklands Street Community Gardens is always a wonderful spread of cakes, sandwiches, soups and the essential Tom’s sausage sizzle,” she said.
“This year will celebrate 12 years of hard work, healthy fun and lots of gardening, come enjoy the local community gardens big day on 17th September from 10am till 2pm and see if you can spot the bees.”
