Redlands Tigers report

More than 100 spectators turned out to watch the tightly fought contest which featured a host of first-class players in which South Brisbane emerged victorious by 43 runs.

South Brisbane posted 6/342 from their 50 overs after Redlands skipper Steven Moss won the toss and elected to bowl first. Redlands’ opening bowlers Jon Stimpson and recruit James Bazley both took two wickets each, but big hitting all-rounder Ben Cutting ensured the Magpies passed 300 with a quick-fire century.

Queensland Bulls and Brisbane Heat representatives Marnus Labuschagne and Jimmy Peirson got the run-chase off to a flyer for Redlands, combining for a 100-run stand. Peirson was typically belligerent at the top of the order, scoring 77 from 49, while Labuschagne got his season off to a sublime start with a fine century that will have many state cricketers shaking in their boots. His innings included eight fours and a six.

When Peirsen fell with the score on 105, Bazley picked up where the opener left off, scoring a half-century. He supported an in-form Labuschagne before a good delivery from Stanlake ended his innings. Labuschagne was run out soon after for 101 from 104 deliveries, sparking a mid-innings collapse.

Redlands lost five wickets for 38 runs but a late order resurgence from Charles Maili and Jamie Ryan helped them finish with a respectable 299 from 48 overs.
