Redlands author Joanne Verikios has been honoured with an international book award.
Mrs Verikios’ book Winning Horsemanship won book review website Readers’ Favourite’s honourable mention award in the 2017 Non-Fiction Sports category.
Mrs Verikios who lives in Thornlands said the nod was an unexpected surprise.
"This is a tremendous thrill for me,” she said.
"I am excited and honoured to have been singled out in such an illustrious annual competition.
“As a former equestrian and Australian powerlifting champion, I wrote my book simply to share real life advice about horses, how horses and humans can interact with harmony, and how to live and compete with success.”
Mrs Verikios said one of the most welcome results from writing her book was the review she received from the website, adding she was thankful to fellow Redlands author Mark Brigden for suggesting she enter.
“The Five-Star review describing my book as "brilliant" and this subsequent award from Readers' Favorite are major bonuses,” she said.
This year's Readers' Favorite International Book Award contest featured thousands of contestants from over a dozen countries.
Readers' Favorite is one of the largest book review and award contest sites online.
They have received the "Best Websites for Authors" and "Honoring Excellence" awards from the Association of Independent Authors.
Prior to becoming an author Mrs Verikios was also an Australian powerlifting champion, who held state, national and commonwealth records.
She has represented Australia at the women’s world powerlifting championships on two occasions and was ranked as high as seventh in the world.
She is also an experienced horse breeder, trainer and horse judge and horse judge trainer.
