A HEATWAVE and storms are predicted to hit south-east Queensland this weekend.
Bureau of Meteorology meteorologist Chris Joseph said the mercury was tipped to reach up to the low 30s degrees in coastal areas, including the Redlands.
While Mr Joseph described the heatwave spread across most of Queensland as “low intensity”, he urged those outdoors on Saturday and Sunday to take care, with extreme UV index readings expected despite cloud coverage.

“Hot northerly winds will bring hot temperatures across south-east Queensland and an approaching trough from west will combine to form instability, like showers and storms,” he said
But its not all bad news – Mr Joseph said temperatures would likely cool by Monday thanks to a southerly change.
Queensland Ambulance Service Clinical Director Tony Hucker has also urged people to keep cool in the forecast heatwave conditions.
“We need to be careful about these hot days and people need to avoid hottest part of day and keep their fluids up and wear loose fitting clothing" Mr Hucker said.
"Keep an eye out for old folks and babies because they are the high risk groups, because they can't look after themselves like we can.”
