POLICE have charged six people with drugs trafficking after an 11-month investigation into the supply and distribution of crystal meth on the Southern Moreton Bay Islands.
A Queensland Police Service spokesperson said the three men and three women were charged following a series of bayside property searches conducted by police since February last year.
The spokesperson said 32 addresses had been searched during Operation Papa Galosh, which was set up to disrupt the trafficking of methylamphetamine to islands including Russell, Macleay and Lamb.
“As a result of these raids, three men, aged 24, 32, 38 and three women, aged 29, 30, 36 from the southern bay islands were charged with trafficking, and other serious drug offences,” the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson said methylamphetamine, cannabis, drug paraphernalia and stolen property had been found at the properties searched by police during the 11-month operation, with 108 people charged with 471 drugs-related offences in total.
The spokesperson said the offence tally included 200 counts of supplying dangerous drugs.
Capalaba Tactical Crime Squad officer in charge Senior Sergeant Warren Piket said the operation had disrupted the supply and distribution of dangerous drugs on the SMBIs but encouraged anyone with further information to contact police.
“We continue to urge members of the community to provide information in relation to drug activity which can be done so via Policelink or Crime Stoppers,” he said.
The spokesperson said the three men and three women were due to appear at Cleveland Magistrates Court in the coming months.
