A record number of cars were displayed by members of the Bayside Vehicles Restorers Club at the yearly Australia Day Rally held at Ormiston State School on January 26.
By 7.30am there were 200 cars on the oval and by 8am there were an additional 400 cars and 20 motor bikes spilling over into the second oval.
The two best cars of the day were chosen by Mayor Karen Williams and Crr Wendy Bolgary.
A free breakfast was served to more than 1100 people coordinated by tuckshop organiser Debbie Swain.
“What an amazing job my kitchen helpers did on the day. Everyone was served with a smile even in the hot and humid conditions in the day,” Ms Swain said.
Club President Alex Connors said he couldn’t have been more happy with such a successful event and the support of club volunteers on the day made the event run smoothly.
This event is partly sponsored by Redlands City Council and RACQ. Money raised through raffle tickets was donated to charities including a sailing school for people with disabilities Sailability and the school.
At 10.30am cars rallied around the area, finishing at the Redland Sporting Club for lunch.
