EVERY second and fourth Saturday of the month the Lovely Lap Quilts for the Elderly group gather together to create something very special.
We sort, cut, design and play at creating lovely lap quilts for the elderly.
We are a dedicated group aged 11 to 70 plus, who enjoy each other’s company and the process of creating the quilts.
To date we have created and donated more than 70 lap quilts to aged care facilities in the Redlands and Wynnum area.
We use donated new and recycled fabrics and make them into a rag quilt design.
These quilts are used to comfort residents either in their common rooms or given to new arrivals at the facilities to welcome them.
The quilts also provide colour and texture as they are placed over their beds.
If they get cold while sitting in their chairs they have a lovely warm quilt to place over their laps with to keep their legs warm.
We created the lap quilts to be used safely with wheel chairs. They are cosy and light which is important as heavy weights can be uncomfortable on the legs of the aged.
This is such fun and rewarding work, we would love to welcome new helpers.
You don’t need sewing skills as we have lots of steps in the process of creating these quilts like sorting fabric, cutting, designing, washing, snipping to name a few.
I hope you are inspired to join us. Check out our Facebook page and contact us through the Facebook page.
We meet 1pm to 4pm at St James Church, Parish of Waterloo Bay, 19 Station St, Wellington Point.
