TWO local organic food traders will be guest speakers at Redland Organic Growers Inc on March 14.
Marion Davis from Wray Organic at Cleveland and Amanda Scibilia from Brisbane Certified Organic (meat) at Ormiston have been operating businesses in the Redlands for six years.
They are excited about the growing interest in food produced without chemicals and with more humane conditions for farm animals.
Marion’s journey began when she was expecting her first child and wanting to ensure the best possible health for herself and her family.
She is adamant that finding our way back to basic foods – non-processed, non-modified, non-synthetic type of foods our grandparents grew pre-war – is where we need to be.
Amanda studied applied science – farm management and realised that most people were unaware of the mistreatment of many intensively farmed animals.
She wants to contribute to a more sustainable farming system – one that not only holds humane animal practices at the forefront of grazing animal processes but also farms in a manner that preserves the earth’s natural balance.
ROGI president Julia Geljon said community interest in organically grown produce wass definitely on the increase.
“Our monthly meetings are packed full of excitement and well attended. People are eager for food that has good old fashioned flavour,” she said.
“A lot of our members grow food organically and swap the surplus. When we do purchase, we are keen to have closer connections with growers and graziers.”
