Thornlands boxer Michael Black is taking his ability in the ring to a new level with a fight at the Fortitude Boxing stadium on March 24.
Black shot to national recognition with his win on ESPNs internationally broadcast Absco Sheds Elite Boxing Championship. This show, with thousands of television and online viewers, showcased boxers at the peak of their amateur career to determine who is the best.
Michael won a division stacked with talent from Australia and across the Pacific, picking up two ‘fight of the night’ awards.
Having achieved this in amateur ranks,he is taking the first steps to his ultimate goal of winning the world professional title and will box at the same location where Jeff Horn had his Brisbane debut as a professional.
“I like to attack and take the fight to my opponent. I believe that when you’re in the ring you have a responsibility to give the crowd what they want, and they don’t want two guys just looking at each other,” Black said.
For his professional debut, he will fight under his new moniker Mickey ‘Moneyshot’ Black.
The name is in reference to his uppercut that has a tendency to stop fights.
“I think the name just suits me and what I like to do. I am from the Redlands and people from the area like to be up-front and straight forward. That punch is my calling card, and how people seem to remember my fights, so I thought the name tells them what to look for”.
Experiencing a dedicated training camp for the first time Black has been performing well in sparring with both elite amateur and title holding professionals. Uniform feedback is his speed and power point towards a long and successful career.
