MOST waterways are still suffering effects from recent rains. It will take months for the Logan River to clean up although other waterways will clear more quickly.
As a result of the rain there’s quite a few small bream in all rivers and creeks.
There’s been a few bull sharks caught around the mouth of the Logan and there’s been good catches of threadfin and mulloway in the Brisbane River.
The southern bay and northern Pin is pretty dirty and there are few reports of good catches.
Best catches for anglers have been on the rubble bottom areas north of Macleay Island and on the drop offs along North Stradbroke Island from Myora to Dunwich. Boaties in the bay reported the shallows around Mud and Green islands turning up a few grass emperor and bream.
The artificial reefs are producing small snapper and mulloway. There are prawns around, and some very thick schools resulting in a bucket in only a few casts but you need to find them using your sounder first. Top spots through the week have been off Nudgee, the beacons off the Redland Bay boat ramp and deep holes around Lamb and Karragarra islands.
There have been no prawns reported in the northern Jumpinpin area as a result of dirty from the Logan. There has been good reports of chopper tailor in the surf in northern NSW. South Ballina to Pottsville has produced some good catches.
Top times have been sunrise and sunset. Offshore fishing days have been far and few between for the past month. Things improved this week with the current dropping to about one knot off Point Lookout with good shows of dolphinfish around the Wave Rider Buoy. Most reefs out to 100m are producing pearlies, small snapper and tuskfish.
Freshwater fishing has been great since the rains and all impoundments have improved.
Maroon is producing bass, most 35cm to 40cm with the odd bigger yellowbelly. Redclaw numbers have improved and most impoundments are producing good numbers at night, making it worth the trip.
