Five gymnasts from the YMCA at Victoria Point will compete in the State women’s artistic gymnastics championships to be held from April 19 to 22, following successful competition at regional level at Sleeman Sports Complex on April 14 and 15.
They are Jayde Beutel (second vault and fourth all round, level nine), Stephanie Zeilinha (fifth on beam, level 10), Jamie Rule (third on beam, fourth on bars, passed level seven), Marsali Andrews (second on bars, passed level 9) and Kayla Geros (fourth on bars, sixth all round, passed level seven).
The meet follows the success of the men’s senior regional championships, which saw more than 100 male athletes take to the vault, horizontal bar, parallel bars, rings and pommel horse.
“Gymnasts take to the floor as well as perform complex routines on apparatus such as the vault, uneven bars and beam. It’s a great event to come and watch,” Ms Dowdell said.
