HONEY was known to the ancient Greeks as the food of the gods because of its healing properties. It has always been used for rejuvenating purposes.
It contains many vitamins and minerals and is an excellent source of many of the B group vitamins, vitamin C, carotene and organic acids.
It works well as a natural skin softener, an antiseptic and is an ideal ingredient for natural skin care preparations.
Honey cleanses, moisturises and heals.
It is effective with dry, chapped skin and windblown or damaged lips. When using honey for the skin, it is best to use natural unprocessed honey and not brands that have been boiled excessively during processing.
Here are a few ideas to nurture yourself with honey and to keep you feeling and looking good.
To clean facial skin mix equal amounts of clear honey and wheatgerm oil and spread it over your face, avoiding the eyes. Keep it on for 15 minutes, relaxing while you wait.
Wash off with lukewarm water and then splash cold water on the face to close the pores. Pat dry with a soft towel. Honey and wheatgerm oil make an excellent facial cleanser, which is especially effective in removing blackheads.
For hands that have been excessively exposed to harsh climatic conditions use this rich, oily overnight conditioner. Gently warm in a double boiler a teaspoon of honey and one tablespoon each of almond oil and olive oil. Stir constantly until blended.
Remove from the stove and beat in two teaspoons of glycerine. Store in an airtight bottle until needed. Massage well into the hands, then wear cotton gloves for increased absorption.
If you are one of the many people, who suffer with dry, skin on their feet, daily use of a honey treatment will help alleviate the problem.
In addition to keeping feet well-moisturised splash warm water on the feet, then rub in a good layer of honey and leave for about half an hour so that it is well absorbed into the skin.
Rinse residual honey off with warm water and pat dry.
