The new Yamaha grand piano at Redlands College will feel the master’s touch when 2008 international piano competition winner Konstantin Shamray plays in concert at the school from 7pm on Tuesday, May 15.
Mr Shamray is known for impeccable technique and a sublime touch. He will be joined by the school’s head of performance music, clarinetist Dr Peter Handsworth to perform Carl Maria von Weber’s Grand Duo Concertante and Brahm’s autumnal sonata in F minor.

Russian born Shamray is the first and only competitor to date in the 40 years of the Sydney International Piano Competition to win both first and people’s choice prizes, in addition to six other prizes. He partnered with the Australian String quartet for its 13-concert national aubscription tour of 2009 and recorded CDs for the labels Naxos, ABC Classics and Fonoforum.

Mr Handsworth said it was an honour to welcome Konstantin Shamray to Redlands College for this special event and to celebrate the addition of the piano.
