FIVE YMCA Victoria Point gymnasts were selected for Queensland teams at the state women’s artistic gymnastics championships on the weekend.
Stephanie Zeilinga made the level 10 Queensland team – the first YMCA Victoria Point gymnast to be selected at that level.
Jayde Beutel was selected for the level 9 state team.
Three athletes made it into the Border Challenge Team. Marsali Andrews for level 9, Kayla Geros and Jaime Rule for the level 7A team.
Jayde (level 9) was state champion for the beam apparatus and came second on vault, fourth on bars and second all around.
Marsali (level 9) came fifth on vault.
Stephanie (level 10) came fourth on bars and third all around.
Kayla (level 7 under 13) came second on bars and Jamie (level 7 under 15) came fifth on bars and beam.
The four-day event held at Chandler’s Sleeman Centre saw more than 480 athletes compete for the title of Queensland gymnastics champion.
Gymnastics Queensland chief executive said it was one of the most important competitions on the state gymnastics calendar.
“To be one of the lucky few gymnasts selected to compete at nationals is a true honour,” she said.
Ms Dowdell said close to 50 gymnastics clubs took part with gymnasts qualifying at regional events in March and April.
For artistic gymnastics, the girls performed on the floor, beam, bars and vault.
