The Redland Performing Arts Centre will tell a story about the birds and the bees with a photographic exhibition by Erica Siegel of Birkdale from May 1 to 27.
Her exhibition entitled of Birds and Bees – a Journey of Discovery features 88 photographic works including birds, invertebrates and most particularly native solitary bees.
A self-taught wildlife photographer, Ms Siegel has been a member of the Redland Camera Club since 2009 and was featured in Sue des Brosses Exhibition Stories from Hear at the Redland museum in June 2013.
In 2014 she was named the inspiring senior for Division 10 and the topic of local author Louise Gibbon in her book The Voice of Women in the Redlands Strength and Inspiration.
Ms Siegel had an exhibition of 35 native bee photographs at the Redland museum where she also gave a talk on solitary native bees during national honey month in 2016. Her bee photographs have so far been published in six books and various other publications.
Ms Siegel said she photographed bees in her garden and in other parts of the Redlands.
“I also travel in search of birds to photograph,” she said.
This has taken her to north-east Kimberly WA, Coorong SA, Warby Ranges Victoria and this year back to Western Australia's south coast.
“I hope to find the rather elusive southern emu wren, red eared firetail and the red winged fairy wren, endemic to the south western corner of Western Australia,” she said.
