Don't put your pots away just yet.

There are plenty of undersize bream about. There haven’t been too many big ones. The few better quality fish have come from the Brisbane River around the Sunken Wall and Luggage Point and in the Logan River from Marks Rocks to the Gazebo. There are lots of small tailor around. It’s a great time of year to fish for them using super light gear and small lures. The places to look for them are rock walls and jetties around the bayside foreshores and close to any bar entrance like the Seaway.

Mixed in with the tailor are a few better quality trevally, and in the Seaway there have been a few bonito caught off the end of the southern break-wall. There haven’t been as many threadfin and mulloway caught from the Brisbane River this week but there has been good snapper caught around the reclamation pond wall towards the mouth. Most of the action has been at night. In the bay we’re seeing an increase in snapper numbers, the better catches have been from the shallows before first light but they are mixed in with plenty of undersize bream. There are less bream on the deeper artificial reefs and reasonable catches of snapper there as well. If you’re using bait it needs to be good, small octopus or cuttlefish, small black crabs, fresh squid or live bait has produced the better quality.

Micro jigs and small plastics have been the best lure option. There are tuna in the northern bay, especially through the middle of the bay north of Harry’s, and there are mackerel popping up down the western side of Moreton Island and around the Four Beacons. Prawns have been hit and miss. We are at the end of the season and while there may be a late run, in general numbers are dwindling off.
