OODGEROO MP Mark Robinson has likened crossing the four-lane Shore Street West at Cleveland to running of the bulls in Spain it is so dangerous.
Mr Robinson made the comments after Capalaba MP Don Brown announced this week a $250,000 upgrade to Birkdale Road at Agnes and Napier streets was completed a month ahead of schedule.
Mr Robinson said Labor had failed to provide similar safety measures for Cleveland and Ormiston residents.
“It is absurd and irresponsible for the Labor government roads minister and Mr Brown to claim that this Shore Street West intersection is safe to cross, particularly for the seniors and school children who live nearby,” Mr Robinson said.
“For some seniors, crossing the busy four-lane state road just to buy milk and bread is like doing the Spanish running of the bulls but with a walking frame.”
Mr Robinson welcomed improvements for pedestrians in Birkdale and Wellington Point saying road safety was important.
“Sadly the state Labor government have forgotten the equally important seniors and school children of Cleveland and Ormiston who also need a safe crossing point at the Shore Street West and Wellington Street intersection.”
The roundabout at the intersection has been the subject of contention between Labor and LNP politicians.
Just a few weeks ago federal MP Andrew Laming said he would return a promised $3.5 million to Canberra after Transport Minister Mark Bailey said there was no need for an upgrade of the intersection.
