Redland Rhapsody Chorus was taken to seventh place in Australia under Australia’s newly named best novice director at the Sweet Adelines national convention in Hobart on May 20.
Not only was the director new to the role, but for one quarter of the 44 women represented, it was their first time in competition. The chorus competed against 22 choruses in the female sweet adeline competition.
Newcomer of 18 months Stephanie Morris said the competition was “amazing”.
“The great thing is that there are just not incredible performers, but there is great support for us to sing at our best,” Ms Morris said.
The chorus sang When I Fall in Love and Don’t Break the Heart That Loves You, songs the group has rehearsed for the past year.
A long term member of the chorus, Ms Brannon of Victoria Point also conducted more than 800 singers in a mass sing to kick off the annual three-day convention. Previous director Susan Lansdown has remained with the chorus, adding experience and support during this transition.
Links to the chorus’ webcast will be posted on the chorus website redlandrhapsody.org.au and facebook page. The chorus practises at Alexandra Hills on Tuesday nights with its next event Brisbane Sings, being staged in August. Interested people in joining the auditioned chorus can register their interest via the website.
