A SWIM school, child care centre and service station could be built in southern Redland Bay.
The development, in an application lodged with council, is proposed for the intersection of Collins Street and Donald Road.
The proposal was originally up for public consultation from until June 15 but a further notification period is being held from June 28 until July 20.
Developer Rod Macleod said a swim school was a preferred option for the indoor recreation facility, located between the service station and child care centre.
“The amenities may be complemented by a cafe or other service-oriented business,” he said.
“We have had extensive discussions with council and put a great deal of thought into the design and intended uses to complement the surrounding area and provide family services for the growing Redland Bay community.
The property is being leased by Savills’ Michael Harcourt who said operators were already eager to occupy the buildings.
“We are in discussions with prospective swim school, gymnasium and cafe tenants however the project may also suit smaller allied health users such as a dentist or physiotherapist,” Mr Harcourt said.
The application states the proposed service station would have access from both Collins Street and Donald Road. It would have three fuel pumps and a shop with about 150 square metres of display and sales area.
It states the service station would be operated by a major service station provider such as 7-Eleven.
It is proposed that two shops would be attached to the swim school.
The application says the child care centre would accommodate 150 children and employ 23 staff members. It is proposed to include 21 visitor car parks and 23 staff bays.
A total of 28 parks are proposed for the swim school or indoor recreational facility, with opening hours anticipated to be 6.30am to 8pm from Monday to Friday and 7am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday.
There are currently two houses on the land, which is nearly 8500 square metres. It is adjacent to a small shopping centre.
Cr Julie Talty encouraged residents to look at the plans and make submissions during the consultation period.
”Feedback both positive and negative is important and will be considered in the planning process,” she said.
“We have an opportunity to gain some community service assets in the form of the pool and childcare centre.
“I’m sure people will have ideas about the benefits and drawbacks of provision of a service station on the corner of Collins Street and Donald Road.”
Submissions on the development can be made by emailing rcc@redland.qld.gov.au and via redland.qld.gov.au.
