Recycling
ONE positive contribution each family can make is to go green and recycle more rubbish at home.
With recycling a hot topic, you could be left wondering whether your recycling effort really does make a difference.
The answer is YES. Household recycling is here to stay in the Redlands so it’s important to continue to recycle and recycle right.
That means putting all items which can be recycled into your yellow-lidded bin and keeping all contaminants such as clothing, food scraps, garden waste and plastic bags out.
Residents of the Redlands are doing a good job of recycling which shows in a low recycling contamination rate but there’s always room to improve.
This advertising feature is supported by local business:
People can do this by making sure they only send clean recyclable products to the material recovery facility.
Recent audits show about 16 per cent of what goes into our general waste bins is recyclable. On top of that, almost a third of general waste bins contain green waste.
Imagine if we could divert all this to recycling and green waste bins? All that waste which is ending up as landfill would instead have another life as saleable and reusable products.
Why not upsize your recycle bin for a larger 340 litre recycle bin? And while you’re at it, order a green waste bin as well (green waste collection is limited to the mainland).
As an incentive, Redland City Council is waiving the bin establishment fee ($68.95 for each) if you order by Saturday, June 30.
