A YOUNG Capalaba couple hid their $100,000 winning scratch-it ticket under baking trays in the kitchen overnight to keep it safe.
The couple won the $100,000 on a $5 Instant Scratch-Its ticket bought at a Mount Cotton Road news agent.
They checked their ticket numerous times and described themselves as a bit freaked out when they discovered the win.
The husband said he had purchased the ticket and his wife scratched it at home.
“She had a bit of a freak out. She called me to double check and write down all the words,” he said.
The wife said she could not believe her eyes.
“I thought I had stuffed it up,” she said.
“This type of thing doesn’t happen to us. We got pens and paper to write everything out.”
“We’ve checked it many, many times.”
The couple said they hid the ticket for safe keeping until they could claim their prize.
“It was in the very top drawer under the baking trays so the kids couldn’t reach it,” the husband said.
The Capalaba couple plan to use their instant windfall to help set their young family up for the future.
Mount Cotton Road News owner Lyle Reilly said he was thrilled to discover one of his customers had snared a top prize.
“The winner came in and said ‘you sold me a good one’,” he said.
Mr Reilly said he had expected a $750 prize.
“I’m really excited for the customers.”
