Miss Fisher's gold and pearl-handled pistol will have its moment on the silver screen as the popular murder mystery series about the glamorous private detective readies for its feature film debut.
Actor Essie Davis returns as lead Phryne Fisher in Miss Fisher & The Crypt of Tears, traversing the streets of Melbourne and the world in the 1920s alongside fellow Australian Nathan Page, in the role of Detective Inspector Jack Robinson.
Miriam Margolyes and Ashleigh Cummings will also reprise their roles from the three-season television series, first broadcast on the ABC in 2012.
The Every Cloud Production, from a screenplay by Deb Cox, will be directed by television series set-up director Tony Tilse and produced by Fiona Eagger.
"Both new fans and old are in for a ride full of twists and turns as Phryne's Middle Eastern adventures find her hunting for missing treasure, racing the clock on an apocalyptic ancient curse - and still finding time for romantic dalliance," Ms Cox said.
Ms Eagger added: "Miss Fisher & the Crypt of Tears will have the witty intrigue of Indiana Jones, the opulent style of a Merchant Ivory Production, and the feminist fun of Thelma and Louise."
Filming will begin in Morocco and Melbourne in October this year. Principal production investment has come from Screen Australia, in association with Film Victoria.
