BYO guitar to Folk Redland’s next free concert and workshop event at IndigiScapes, Capalaba on Sunday, June 17, featuring local guitar teacher, Nathan George.
George’s teaching style aims to inspire rather than simply inform. His performance is much anticipated and will provide opportunity to participate in the workshop which he will weave into his performance.
His workshop will be geared towards beginner to intermediate players and, while some theory will be involved (e.g. navigating the fretboard), the focus will be practical and hands-on.
George has been a professional musician and began teaching guitar at 19. He started playing guitar at age nine and knew at an early age that music/guitar playing would be his career. After attending Wellington Point State High, he completed a Certificate in Music at TAFE and soon afterwards discovered a passion for teaching guitar as well as performing. This resulted in a number of years of teaching in Cleveland and also involvement in promoting live music in the Redlands. He has previously organised and hosted jam nights, at the Sands, and later, Hogans Hotels, been a judge at Busking by the Bay, and is currently hosting the monthly Redlands Guitar Club events at Binary Music in Cleveland.
His musical tastes are wide which is reflected in his playing skills across many genres. His earliest influences were the iconic jazz and blues players and, later, the great players of the 60’s such as Clapton, Jeff Beck, and also Tommy and the late Phil Emmanuel.
Beside teaching and performing in various formats, George has also been in demand as a session player.
The Folk Redlands event promises to be an entertaining and informative afternoon, and especially valuable for anyone keen to improve their playing and understanding of music as it relates to the guitar.
Walk-up blackboard performers are invited to open the afternoon from 1pm, followed by George’s performance and workshop from 2pm to 4pm.
