STAR of the Sea Catholic Primary School student Jennifer Viegas is gearing up to compete at nationals with her team mates after dominating the Sports Aerobics State Level Championships.
Year 1 to 6 students took part in the aerobics competition with 22 of 31 children qualifying against 16 other schools and clubs by placing or earning wild cards after showing the judges their potential.
Jennifer won first place in individuals, pairs and was part of the Super 6 winning team and came 2nd with the Groovers team.
Coach Sarah Robertson said Jennifer was a stand out and was a pleasure to coach.
“I offered all the kids an extra morning to come in to practice the week following states and Jen ... took up the opportunity,” she said.
“She always puts in 110 per cent.
“She did her best routine to date at states for all the sections she competed in and the way she helps other kids at training and competitions really does show her determination for herself and others to succeed.”
Ms Robertson said as the school aerobics program grew immensely following the success from the 2017 competition season, there were more students in the same section.
“(This makes) it extremely hard to qualify when they are versing up to 13 other people or teams so it’s great that more than half of the kids in the program have been invited,” she said.
“The girls did great considering the amount of teams and singles they were up against and I was so proud of their sportsmanship and attitude regardless of their placing.”
The girls who qualified for nationals will compete on August 11 at Chandler.
