An extensive art exhibition showcasing the work of 39 artists and presenting 99 works will be staged from July 19 to August 24 at the Redland Performing Arts Centre.
The winter exhibition showcases work of the Redland’s Creative Alliance and is open for viewing during te centre’s daily hours and when events are being held. It will be officially opened by Deputy Mayor Cr. Lance Hewlett at 6.30pm on July 19.
Artists from Macleay Island, Capalaba, Cleveland, Victoria Point, Thornlands, Wellington Point, Coochiemudlo Island, Russell Island, Mount Cotton, Sheldon, Redland Bay, Birkdale, Alexandra Hills, Point Lookout and Cornubia will be featured with many of the artists representing local arts groups including the Old Schoolhouse Gallery, Redlands Yurara Art Society Studio and Gallery, Macleay Island Arts Complex Inc., Coochie Art Group and RICArts Inc at Russell Island.
Alliance chair May Sheppard said the group offered exhibition opportunities to this online group of more than 400 creative people.
Artists on display create in oils, watercolour and acrylics, impasto and linocut, mixed medias including charcoal, pencil, pen and ink, collage, enamel on copper, gold leaf, photography and sculpture in mosaic and red cedar.
“By encouraging openness and accessibility for all creatives, all ages and all skills, the alliance spreads awareness that creativity, the arts and heritage are at the core of a strong and healthy Redlands community,” Ms Sheppard said.
The opening will also feature the Nuages duo comprising Paul Carrol and Robin Wilson who will play light jazz, joined by vocalist Vicky MacDonald, a member of Mama Juju and the Jam Tarts.
Visitors can vote for their favourite work with the winnner to receive an art materials prize donated by Tania’s Art House.
The alliance has organised member’s annual exhibitions at RPAC since 2012. Last year it had its first exhibition at Redland Museum’s Dunn gallery and will return later this year.
A small fee for entering these exhibitions means funds are raised to support the alliance website. The alliance is otherwise free and run as a voluntary organisation. More on redlandscreativealliance.org or on Facebook.
