THE only remaining founding member Peter Mathews and David Field have been named the Rotary Club of Capalaba’s presidents for the next year.
In his 40th year of taking part in the club, Mr Mathews manages his time between the group, being a manager of a business and participating in triathlons across the world and at times represents Australia.
Due to his busy schedule, David Field rose to the occassion and offered to help Mr Matthews with the role.
Mr Field, who had been a member for the past 10 years, said sharing the co-presidency with Mr Matthews was an honour, especially considering his years of Rotary service.
“Our plan is to continue the good work of a series of club presidents while doing good in the world,” he said.
The news was handed down at the annual changeover when Logan, Redland and Wellington Point members met at Raby Bay on Monday with Capalaba club president Annette Richards giving praise to her outgoing board and members.
Three Rotary Club of Capalaba members have also been recognised, including Col Stucliffe who earned himself the Rotarian of the Year title for his work with all group activities.
Member Shannon McCarthy was awarded and Paul Harris Fellow, Sue Hanrahan received a sapphire to her Paul Harris Fellow and Rotarian partner Judith Mathews with a Paul Harris Fellow.

The Paul Harris Fellow is in recognition of a $US1000 donation made on her behalf by the Capalaba Rotary Club to the Rotary Foundation and the amount level continues with more sapphires added to the badge.
Special guests included the District Governor Elwyn Hodges attended as the Rotary International representative with his wife Allison, Redland City mayor Karen Williams and Detective Inspector Owen Elloy, a man who has been a promoter of the clubs annual Vocational and Police Service Awards.
