REPORTING crime can only work if witnesses or those with information know who to ring.
Police are always available to speak to but anonymous tip-offs can be made to Crime Stoppers by phoning 1800 333 000.
The organisation’s Brisbane bayside branch received more than 730 drugs-related calls last year, helping police to seize $161,880 worth of drugs.
Other crimes can also be reported, including property offences and assaults.
Janice Dorber said promoting Crime Stopper’s 1800 333 000 hotline number was an essential part of boosting the community service’s profile.
A barefoot bowls day on Saturday, August 25 at Club Manly will help raise money to buy Crime Stoppers merchandise for handout to the public.
Wristbands, stickers, emery boards and more are distributed by Crime Stoppers volunteers at community events, which helps to advertise the 1800 333 000 number.
Mr Dorber said money raised would also be used to top-up funds rewarded to some informants who help police solve serious, high-profile crimes.
“We raise money to buy promotional material to hand out and supply money for the rewards system,” she said.
Tickets to the Brisbane Bayside Crime Stoppers barefoot bowls day are $20 per person.
Book tickets by emailing brisbanebayside@csql.com.au by August 20.
