With her tenacity and fighting spirit, Sheridan Darroch has made an wonderful contribution to women’s softball.
But that tenacity and fighting spirit has been put to the test time and again as she has battled life-long Cystic Fibrosis.
Cystic Fibrosis is a recessive genetic condition that primarily affects the lungs and digestive system.
It causes impairment of the digestive functions of the pancreas and traps bacteria in the lungs resulting in recurrent infections, leading to irreversible damage.
Lung failure is the major cause of death for someone with CF.
Sheridan was born with the disease, but in her late 20’s her health began to fail and she was spending more time in hospital with lung infections.

Victoria Point Sharks Softball Club
In early 2017 Sheridan underwent a double lung transplant, gifted from an anonymous donor.
“Sheridan returned to the softball diamond just 7 and a half months after her transplant and has plans to continue playing for many years to come,” said a representative of the Sharks Softball Club; her biggest supporters and the club she has played with for the past 15 years.
"She has had a few ups and downs along the way but has currently just returned to the diamond for Sharks A Grade Women.”
Sheridan is extremely grateful for this second chance at life and gives thanks every single day to her ‘hero’ for allowing her to enjoy the simple, everyday things that we often take for granted.
Karen Griffith, Secretary of the Victoria Point Sharks Softball Club, says Sheridan is a real inspiration for her fellow players.
“She has survived an organ transplant and is still taking the field playing in our A Grade Ladies Side.
“I get so emotional when I see what she has gone through and how determined she is to make a difference.
“She is a survivor, I know the juniors look up to Sheridan as do her fellow players, she has a never-say-never attitude and I just love her.”
