MORE than 70 jobs have been created at Thornlands through an extension to the Moreton Shores aged care facility.
The Terrace was opened by Redlands MP Kim Richards and Cr Paul Golle, together with residential aged care and retirement living residents and Bolton Clarke employees.
Cr Golle said he was excited that the investment had delivered 60 direct high care jobs and 12 support positions.
“This is a fantastic new facility that incorporates a cafe and high care wing,” Cr Golle said.
“There is also a new gymnasium and an area for residents to meet or hold functions.”
The facilities at The Terrace include a cinema room, seniors-friendly gym, alfresco dining areas, walking tracks, playground and cafe.
Moreton Shores resident of six years Clare McKirdy did the honours by cutting the ceremonial cake.
“The community is wonderful, and not just the building,” Ms McKirdy said.
“The staff are marvelous, from the laundry, to the kitchen, cleaners and nursing staff.
“A lot of people do not realise what the staff do, until you experience it in a community like this.”
Moreton Shores residential manager Deirdre Moran said the cafe had been named Coffee on Kings, paying homage to the community’s street address.
The name was chosen from suggestions made by staff and residents.
Ms Richards said the building was a beautiful new world-class facility that integrated inside with the stunning natural environment.
