FOUR school-based trainees have begun their health career journey at Redland Hospital with some education sessions in the Simulation Centre.
Hospital staff have welcomed Redlands College duo Brooke Bridgland and Holly Van Schyndel and Alexandra Hills State High School pair Danielle James and Jasmin Nixon who began their Certificate 3 studies at TAFE last month.
The students will be rostered to work in the surgical, renal and medical wards.
Nurse educator Jessica Staunton said the trainees would begin work on the clinical units this week and would be allocated with a ‘buddy nurse’ for every shift.
“They will also meet with me each week for de-brief and spend the first few weeks settling into hospital and ward routines, becoming familiar with hospital and health terminology,” she said.
“They will also learn how to provide basic care for patients including showering, feeding, mobilising and socialising.”
Ms Staunton said the first four to six weeks would prove a huge a learning curve for the trainees as they settled into their new roles.
