The Redlands Sporting Club vocal contest has attracted a wider network of singers since opening for the first time to include contestants from outside the Redlands.
Coordinator Doreen Thomas said heats had already started with competition staged on August 6 and 13 for Under 16 year olds. One performer, Albina Niceforo, 12, flew from Cairns to compete and to meet the contest’s ambassador Mirusia.
“Not only does Albina love to sing, but she also loves Redlands’ very own Mirusia and watches Andre Rieu and Mirusia on a DVD or on television just about every night. When they found out about the vocal competition it was only natural for Albina’s mother to book flights so they could attend,” Ms Thomas said.
“Albina had the room erupting with applause after her beautifully performed rendition of O Solo Mio and was one of the lucky six contestants to make it to the semi-finals.”
The semi finals will be held at the club on August 25 and finals from 2pm to 5pm on September 1. Entry to audience members is free and Ms Thomas said everyone was welcome.
On August 24, Mirusia will hold a vocal masterclass from 6.30pm to 8pm. The masterclass is open to anyone with interested people invited to register with Ms Thomas on 3207 1133 or email marketing@rsc.asn.au
