It's likely to be a drier than average September and October for much of Australia, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.
The BoM's seasonal climate outlook issued on Thursday predicts a dry and warm spring that would exacerbate existing drought conditions in NSW.
The organisation's meteorologists expect it will be drier in southwest WA, southeastern Australia and parts of central Queensland when averaged over the whole season.
Days are expected to be warmer than average across Australia during the September to November period, with night temperatures also expected to be higher than average except in the country's southeast.
Analysts said that for September there is an increased chance of below-average rainfall in western Victoria, southwest WA, inland NSW, Tasmania and much of Australia's northeast.
