SOROPTIMIST International Bayside will deliver 150 care packs to Redlands Hospital’s Emergency Department for those experiencing trauma thanks to Alexandra Hills State High School.
The school became involved in creating care packs filled with toiletries after being inspired to help when staff and students attended the International Women's Day breakfast held by the organisation in March.
Program convenor Eileen Mitchell said the packs would make a difference to the women and girls who needed support during a difficult time.
“The packs enables those to regain their dignity and for them know there’s someone out there that actually cares,” she said.
Ms Mitchell said she was amazed at the hard work the students contributed to the project.
“The students really got behind it and put their time to actually make up the packs, not just gathering the content for us to deliver,” she said.
“We normally do 20 or 30 packs at a time where the school made 150 plus and donated all the items that couldn’t make into packs.
“It’s absolutely stunning.”
Ms Mitchell said the project aligned with the school’s great welfare program.
“It just seemed like a natural fit to have students take part, which still fitted in with their studies while learning of things they can do to help and realise that people in our own community do need assistance,” she said.
Ms Mitchell said it was wonderful to see students’ enthusiasm with the project as well as the amount of items donated for future care packs.
