The last of the three weekends of the Australian Film series is being held at RPAC on September 1. The final weekend will feature two of Australia’s finest romantic drama films, Australia and Moulin Rouge. Both films star multi award-winning Australian actress Nicole Kidman and are directed by Baz Luhrmann.
Australia has two screenings, one at 10am (captioned) and 1pm (non-captioned). This romantic, historical drama film, directed by Baz Lunrman, is set at the beginning of World War II. The film follows the plight of English aristocrat Lady Sarah Ashley as she joins forces with the rough-hewn stockman drover to drive 2,000 head of cattle across hundreds of miles of the country’s most unforgiving land. Starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman, this film runs for 165 minutes and is rated M.
The Oscar-winning Moulin Rouge, co-produced and co-written by Baz Luhrmann, is set in Paris. Christian, a young English writer falls in love with the star courtesan of the Moulin Rouge club, Satine. But things take a wicked turn for Christian as her affections are also coveted by the club’s patron: the Duke. Starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor, this film runs for 127 minutes and is rated M. Screenings are at 4:30pm (captioned) and 7pm (non-captioned).
