MORE than than 320 female gymnasts will compete in the Brisbane South Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Junior Regional Championships at Victoria Point on the weekend.
The event is a stepping stone for athletes to qualify for the State Championships at Chandler later this month and an opportunity to vie for a spot in the Brisbane South Regional Team.
Gymnastics Queensland chief executive Officer Kym Dowdell said the event would be a two-day showcase of local talent where gymnasts would demonstrate their strength, flexibility and artistry.
“Thirteen clubs are set to participate, with 327 gymnasts competing on women's apparatus like the vault, bars, beam and floor,” Ms Dowdell said.
“These athletes are very competitive and have their sights set on the State Championships next month, so I’m certain we’ll see some very polished and inspiring performances.
“While the focus is on having fun, there will certainly be healthy competition among our gymnasts as they aim for a podium finish.”
Ms Dowdell encouraged anyone with an interest in gymnastics and general sport enthusiasts to attend.
“Gymnastics is a visually impressive spectator sport and these meets make for a highly entertaining day out for spectators.”
The event will be at YMCA Victoria Point Gymnastics Club, 128 Link Road, Victoria Point.
