Rescue under way after man swims two hours to Coochiemudlo Island

A MAN is in a serious condition following a two-hour swim to Coochiemudlo Island after his boat capsized.

A Queensland Ambulance Services spokesperson said at 6pm a rescue helicopter was on its way to the island.

The man in his sixties was found at the Coochie jetty about 4.50pm.

The spokesperson said the man had been in a boat that capsized.

“He swam for about two hours to get to shore,” the spokesperson said.

He was in the hands of a QAS first responder while waiting for the helicopter.

The spokesperson said the man was in a serious condition, suffering the effects of hypothermia.
